Silhouette Island

Silhouette Island, the third-largest in the Seychelles, is a hidden gem located 20 km (12.5 miles) off Mahé’s western coast. Despite being close to the main island, Silhouette remains peaceful and untouched, offering a serene getaway.

Covering 20 square kilometers, Silhouette is known for its tall peaks, like Mont Dauban reaching 740 meters (2,427 ft), often covered in clouds. The island’s unique ecosystem is home to special pitcher plants and lots of bats that come out at night to eat fruit.

Unlike other granite islands, Silhouette is made of volcanic rock formed around 63 million years ago. This gives it a different look from older islands like Mahé.

Once a place for plantations, Silhouette is now a national park with lots of unique plants and animals. Conservation efforts help protect these species, including turtles that were rediscovered here.

Silhouette doesn’t have many roads or cars; instead, you’ll find footpaths and electric carts. The Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort and Spa, built-in 2006, offers luxury stays amidst the island’s natural beauty.

Despite its modern comforts, Silhouette still has an air of mystery, with stories of pirate treasure adding to its charm. Whether you’re relaxing on its beaches or exploring its jungles, Silhouette Island promises a memorable adventure for nature lovers and explorers.

Best Time To Visit

  • May-October: Ideal for beach bums and water lovers. Expect drier weather, calmer waters, but more visitors and slightly higher prices.
  • November-April: Lusher island beauty with fewer crowds. Rain showers are more frequent, offering a refreshing break from the sun, but may impact outdoor activities.
  • Golden Rule: No matter when you visit, Silhouette’s unique charm will captivate you! The key is choosing the experience that best suits your desires.
